Interoperating (English: connecting) your various electronic devices normally requires you to become your own IT department. You have to download and install compatible software for every application across all your devices. You have to configure networks, set up pairings, and manually spread security keys across all your devices before they can communicate, and you have to pre-set permissions before they allow you to get anything done. Printing from any device requires you to install a driver on every device for every printer you want to use.
The complexity is a deal breaker for the average consumer, and a waste of time for the tech-savvy. It was never supposed to be that hard.
